Adobe Flash Platform Services Unveiled – Powered by Gigya

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Adobe unveiled its new Flash Platform Services at the Adobe MAX conference last week, featuring the Gigya-powered services in the keynotes on both Monday and Tuesday.  Adobe Flash Platform Services are online, hosted services that allow developers to add innovative capabilities to Web applications with a predictable, cost efficient deployment model.  Developers, advertisers and publishers are now using Adobe Flash Platform Services to make Web applications sharable, social, and collaborative.

It was amazing to see the enthusiastic response from the thousands of developers that filled every nook of the show, and our hats are off to the fantastic team at Adobe that worked so hard to bring this important product to market. In addition to the distribution services powered by Gigya, coming soon to Flash Platform Services are social services powered by Gigya, which enable simplified implementation and management of Facebook Connect, MySpaceID, Sign in with Twitter,  Y!OS, though a single API.

You can learn more about how to access the services, available for Flash Pro, Flexbuilder 3 and Dreamweaver at http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/services/

Gigya and Acquia host Webinar for new Gigya Socialize Drupal Module – available now in archive

Friday, August 7th, 2009

A big thanks to our friends at Acquia, and Joshua Brauer in particular, for putting on such a quality webinar earlier this week. The webinar was very well attended and folks asked some great questions, the answers to which are being posted together with the webinar. If you missed the live event, it is available for anyone to view right now.

For those who may be unfamiliar, Gigya Socialize makes it easy to integrate your site with social sites and OpenID providers like Facebook Connect, Twitter, MySpace and more.  Gigya provides single, simplified API access to all authentication and social APIs from these providers to streamline implementation and management.

The Drupal module for Gigya Socialize delivers all the features and functionality of the core Socialize product, from authentication, to customization & personalization, to promotion, but also provides some very powerful features specific to the Drupal CMS.

Gigya’s new Socialize Module for Drupal makes it easy for Drupal site owners to:

  • Enable users to link existing accounts with social network and OpenID identities, and personalize the user experience by making it easy for sites to integrate user profile and social graph data.
  • Increase user acquisition by enabling users to invite friends to the site, or to share site content or a specific event. For example, using the Socialize module users can choose to invite their Facebook friends to comment on a new post they created.
  • Increase site traffic through viral promotion, enabling users to send status updates, tweets and newsfeed events to their social networks. The Gigya Socialize module has been fully integrated with Drupal’s user action and trigger core modules so Drupal site owners can configure the viral promotion channels to work dynamically.
  • Easily configure the user experience, design, and module functionality using the Drupal administration panel.

“Content and community are the critical components of many Drupal websites and the Gigya Socialize Drupal module connects Drupal-based communities with the leading social networks on the web,” said Dries Buytaert, Drupal project founder and Acquia CTO.  “Simplifying site authentication processes and integration with various networks and platforms can improve the user experience and extend the reach of every website.”

The new Gigya Socialize Drupal module is fully configurable and installs in minutes with no programming. The module is available, free of charge, on Drupal.org at http://drupal.org/project/gigya.
Please check it out and let us know what you think or if you have questions. We can be reached at support@gigya-inc.com.

Gigya, Mochila Partner to Distribute Content

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mochila, the first global online media marketplace for text, video, and photo content, today announced a strategic partnership with Gigya, the emerging widget distribution and tracking network. Mochila will deploy Gigyas Wildfire technology to its extensive network of buyers and sellers including content publishers of all sizes, from long-tail blogs to large media companies.

Mochila members can use Wildfire to add and distribute content directly, in a single step, to more than a dozen sites including TypePad, Blogger, MySpace and Facebook, among many others. Mochila plans to expand the deployment to enable fully controlled viral badges, giving publishers total control of how their content is distributed on republishers’ sites.

This partnership will increase the benefits for Gigya and Mochila customers by allowing for broad distribution of Web content in one easy step, said Ben Pashman, Vice President of Business Development at Gigya. Our Wildfire technology is a no cost solution that makes it possible to track and virally distribute content via engaging widgets.

Mochila is a breakthrough syndication model for the publishing world and were thrilled to be able to tap into Gigyas technology to help drive a new dynamic for the exchange of all types of content, said Benjamin Chen, Chairman and CTO of Mochila. By partnering with Gigya, we can build upon the ways in which we help our publisher members syndicate quality content that otherwise becomes trapped and siloed. We’re equally excited that Gigya can also supply us with the opportunity to incrementally monetize this additional distribution.

Mochila’s network of buyers and sellers includes the most-recognized media brands in the world. Content providers such as the Associated Press, Reuters, Getty Images and Hearst Magazines, among hundreds of others; have turned to Mochila to expand the reach and value of their content.

Since its inception, Gigya has signed 500 partners, including seven of the top 10 widget developers. More than 1 billion widgets are distributed and tracked using Wildfire every month.

Gigya Promotes Your Widgets on Netvibes! + Update

Sunday, September 30th, 2007
Dear Gigya Partner,
Gigya was selected to be one of the few to feature a widget gallery on Netvibes, one of the largest personal homepage platforms with millions of users. The gallery will feature selected widgets which we will showcase.
We are reaching out to our partners to offer you to present your widgets on this gallery. The main advantage is that Netvibes users are an incremental audience that will be exposed to your widgets. Netvibes users usually look for widgets in the Netvibes gallery and not elsewhere, so it’s a great opportunity to expose your brand. All links on the widgets will go back to your site. We see this as a part of the service to our partners to help promote your widgets via such galleries.
Initially, we can only present widgets that do not need customization. Note that for many widgets you can probably do the customization for the user (colors, fonts, etc) and send us just one version which we will present in the gallery. We apologize for the urgency, but if you would like to participate please send the necessary information (see below) of up to 10 widgets to partners@gigya-inc.com by Tuesday this week. Yes, this is two days from today… there is a tight deadline on the launch of the gallery.
Information for submitting a widget for Gigya’s Netvibes Gallery:
1. The URL of your SWF file (it can include parameters)
2. Widget main language
3. Title for widget
4. Widget short description
5. A gif/jpg/png thumbnail of widget – width=280px (important to keep this width)
6. Tags
In the second phase we will also be able to showcase widgets that should be customized from your site. We will send an update when that will be available. In your email please let us know if you wish to take part in the 2nd phase.  In addition, we are happy to update you with new features we recently released. Partners who already switched to our Flash interface enjoy these updates without the need to make any code changes. We encourage partners who still use our old version to switch over. The advantages are significant (faster, better UI, more features, real-time reports) and the effort to switch is minimal (see instructions at the end).

What’s new?
1. Orkut – The 3rd biggest network worldwide opened for embeddable code and Gigya quickly responded to allow quick posting for this network. We now support quick posting to 19 destinations (in the Flash version only):
MySpace, Friendster, Facebook, Tagged, Blogger, Hi5, Freewebs, Xanga, LiveJournal, BlackPlanet, MyYearBook, Piczo, Wordpress, Typepad, Multiply, iGoogle, Netvibes, PageFlakes, and now also Orkut.

2. Advanced configuration tool – we have released a comprehensive configuration tool that lets you control every design element and preview it on the spot. You can even import your current configuration code, make changes and export the code to reuse it on your site or within your widget.

3. Support for Spanish and Portuguese – You can turn the Wildfire UI to be in either of these languages by adding a special parameter (see our API for more info). We will make it in next version so that Wildfire auto-detects the user computer language and adjusts.

4. Raw reports data download URL – You can now download your raw reporting data from a specific URL by providing your Gigya username and password as parameters (see our API for more info).

How to upgrade to the Flash interface?
1. In your current Wildfire code, change the file name of the Wildfire JS from: wfapi.js to: wfapiV2.js
2. Sign up for an account on our new site at www.gigya.com and go to the Account Settings page. On this page you’ll find your PartnerID. Place this ID in the Wildfire code, instead of your PARTNERNAME, which you have placed there before (see example below).
3. Optional – Hide your textarea (or text box) that presents users with your embed code. To do that, simply add in your textarea tag: STYLE=”DISPLAY:NONE”. Users will grab code from the Wildfire text box and you will get full tracking on any post done from your site. Please note that if you wish to increase the size of the Wildfire text box, you may simply increase the size of Wildifre, and the text box will get larger.
4. Once you have that done, just login to Gigya.com and see your widget stats, through the My Reports link.

If you need any help with the upgrade, please contact us at: partners@gigya-inc.com

Thanks for choosing with Gigya!

Best,
Eyal Magen
CEO, Gigya

Example – Changing PARTNERNAME to your PartnerID:
1. For the full Wildfire UI:

Before: Wildfire.initPost(” XYZ.COM“, “divWildfirePost”, 400, 230, pconf);
After: Wildfire.initPost(”1541“, “divWildfirePost”, 400, 230, pconf);
2. For the Wildfire button:
Before: <script src=” http://cdn.gigya.com/wildfire/JS/WFButton.js?flash=1&module=post&cid=TEXTAREA_ID&partner=XYZ.COM“></script>
After: <script src=” http://cdn.gigya.com/wildfire/JS/WFButton.js?flash=1&module=post&cid=TEXTAREA_ID&partner=1541“></script>
