Gamification: Real Results, Not Hype – Infographic

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

With gamification, both parties win: users have a good time engaging in some friendly competition over your web properties, and businesses get value from these returning customers as they spend more time interacting with the website and sharing their actions across their social networks.

To show just how gamification impacts online user behavior, we’ve pooled data from thousands of Gigya implementations last year. The results? Websites with gamification experienced a 29 percent increase in site actions overall.

The infographic below breaks the data down and settles the question once and for all: gamification isn’t all fun and games. Well, only in the literal sense, at least.

Announcing User Management 360: The Next Generation in User Management

Monday, September 10th, 2012

As you may have read on TechCrunch, last week we announced the launch of User Management 360, Gigya’s revamped user management platform. Formerly named Social Identity Management Platform, we’ve done a lot more than change the name. In fact, we’ve added two new products designed to solve a huge problem for marketers:  acquiring and accessing user data.

Simply put, User Management 360 gives marketers the tools to register users, access their data in a permission-based and transparent way, and market to them with an unprecedented level of accuracy.  One of the new products we introduced is Registration-as-a-Service (RaaS). RaaS allows businesses to build an end-to-end registration system – that include both traditional registration fields, Social Login, and profile management pages – in minutes, and without any coding required. You don’t need to be an engineer in order to create registration forms and workflows. Rather, using RaaS, marketers can create all of this on their own through an intuitive drag-and-drop dashboard.

The other major addition to User Management 360 is Identity Access. Identity Access allows marketers to view the profile details of any user that has registered via social login or traditional site registration.  Identity Access also allows marketers to define targeted audience segments using attributes from users’ social data such as interests, location, education, and social connections. From there, marketers can connect user data to third-party tools like email marketing providers, recommendation engines, and content management systems to create hyper-relevant marketing campaigns.

Importantly, all information captured by User Management 360 is obtained on an explicit permission basis. So when a user logs-in either through Social Login or through standard registration, the permissions for data storage a transparent, clear, and accurate.

User Management 360 is a big step for Gigya as we continue expanding our suite of social infrastructure technology. We will continue to innovate and build out our products even more to give our clients everything they need to make their websites and apps social.

Keep an eye out for more exciting news from us in the next few months!

Announcing Gigya’s Identity Management Platform

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Today we’re announcing the release of Gigya’s Identity Management Platform, a new technology for managing user data that provides businesses with complete, permission-based access to user social, profile, and behavior data on their websites. Until now, businesses trying to access reliable sets of customer data have been hindered by several obstacles such as outdated registration information or purchasing expensive customer data that can be lacking in interest graph information. Now your business can collect, store and leverage permission-based social data for targeted email marketing campaigns and content recommendations, and even segment users for hyper-relevant ad targeting.

Gigya’s Identity Management Platform captures social data – profile, social graph, interest graph, and behavior graph data – that users authorize a site to access when they authenticate with their social identities either through registration/login or through interacting with social plugins on the site. The new platform also offers sites a cloud-based user registration system, allowing sites to maintain a unified user database across a network of sites using Single Sign-On for both social and traditional site authentication.

As with all of Gigya’s technology, the Identity Management Platform works seamlessly with and leverages Gigya’s existing suite of social products including Social Login, Ratings & Reviews, Comments Plugin, Share, and Gamification, making it the only data management solution available that provides complete insight into user demographics, interests, preferences and on-site behaviors.

By integrating with Gigya’s suite of social plugins, you can target your users with an unprecedented level of granularity and relevance. As an example, using Gigya’s Identity Management Platform, you can easily obtain a list of users who have a college degree, like traveling, and are socially influential.

Social data yields an incredible opportunity for business trying to reach, target and influence your customers. With the Identity Management Platform, you can now take advantage of the power of permission-based social data and become more relevant to your customers than ever before.

Gigya’s Got Game! Introducing Game Mechanics

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Summer is here and that always means fun at Gigya. The Gigya office is all abuzz today with the official launch of the latest addition to our product suite: Game Mechanics, a product that brings the fun into online experiences, driving the online user behaviors that fuel our clients’ businesses.

Gartner analyst Brian Burke wrote in his January 2011 Gamification Primer, “In the past, the question was: How can I get customers more engaged? The answer was to use points and rewards. The question has changed to: What game mechanics can be applied to increase engagement and change behavior in this problem space? The focus has shifted to understanding how games motivate people — and then how can those motivational techniques be applied to a business problem.”

Until Gigya, the options for online businesses looking to gamify their own sites were limited to point solution vendors, adding layers of complexity to both program management and site integration. We’re solving this problem by offering Game Mechanics as an integrated part of our social suite. Clients can both automatically incorporate user activity across any of the Gigya social plugins into the Game Mechanics product, as well as pull in any other valuable user activity on the site.

Gigya’s gamification solution is the easiest to implement and most powerful option on the market today. With Gigya’s integrated platform, clients have everything they need to make their own sites social, and then leverage the social analytics to fuel growth.

Gamification has been one of the most requested features from our clients and we are very excited that a number of launch partners for Game Mechanics including Fathead.com, Car Domain, Video Bash, GoodSearch, Shoebacca and Daily Racing Form will soon be adding the solution to their sites.

Some of the highlights of the product include:

  • A dashboard that gives site administrators total flexibility to configure game mechanics components including assigning points, creating challenges and awarding users with achievements like badges and level-ups based on site activity.
  • Full integration with all other Gigya social plugins, enabling clients to automatically incorporate social activity into the social rewards program
  • The ability to create and upload badges and other content-based awards that match the brand personality of the site
  • Powerful, customizable plugins to display to users their achievements, leaderboards, and real-time notifications of accomplishments
  • Reports on fundamental metrics including top users, daily activities and user segments by achievement

Here’s a brief video overview of Gigya’s Game Mechanics product. As always, please contact us at sales@gigya.com or (650) 353-7230 to learn more.

Messenger Connect: A New Tool for Worldwide Social Distribution (Whitepaper)

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled a comprehensive activity stream architecture for Windows Live. This activity stream (sometimes called “Messenger social updates”) flows throughout popular PC, web and mobile phone services such as Messenger, Outlook, MSN and the new Windows Phone 7. This means activities sent to this newsfeed have the potential of surfacing where some of the most meaningful social interactions are taking place on a monthly basis:

  • There are more than 500 million active Windows Live IDs
  • Messenger has more than 298 million active accounts worldwide
  • Hotmail has more than 359 million active accounts worldwide
  • Windows Live Messenger climbed to #2 worldwide in total daily active users connecting to Facebook
  • the Messenger iPhone client has been installed millions of times
  • Windows Live activities flow to the “People Hub” of the new Windows Phone 7

As a site owner, allowing users to share activities from your site to the Windows Live activity stream represents a new opportunity in social distribution. It lets you connect your application to potentially hundreds of millions of Windows Live users and their devices. It’s hard to understate the value of tapping into a pipeline to such an enormous number of people.
