Gigya has compiled new data showing that 22% of all comments left on Gigya’s Comments and Ratings & Reviews plugins are shared to social networks. That’s an astounding percentage of user-generated content getting shared directly to social networks and thus having a major impact on referral traffic to websites implementing Gigya’s social infrastructure technology. This also reveals how crucial it is for sites to have social networks hooks throughout the user experience, allowing users to seamlessly bring their social identities across the web.
Further, we found that users are sharing across multiple different platforms. Of all shared comments and reviews, 33% of users share to Facebook, 28% share to Twitter and 39% of users share to other networks including Google+, LinkedIn and international networks such as QQ and Orkut.
While it’s clear that Facebook and Twitter are the preferred sharing platforms among the majority of users, the other social networks cannot be ignored. By giving users choice – the ability to login to a site via any of their preferred social networks – businesses can meet consumer demand and increase key metrics like page views, time on-site and social referral traffic. This all happens with the help of social infrastructure technologies like Social Login, social commenting and social gamification which give users what they want: social experiences across the web.
